Grants of up to $1,000 to USA K-12 schools, parents, and parent groups in eligible states for parent-led programs that promote school-based physical activities or nutrition initiatives. Funding is intended for programs that succeed in engaging more parents in family and student health activities. The purpose of the grant is to provide funds and resources to revamp or introduce fitness or nutrition programs so that all students have access to healthy choices. Funded schools will also receive expertise and people power to help implement a successful project that leads to sustainable change.

Grants are available for K-12 schools in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Washington, DC, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

The Parents Grants - Nutrition Project - are for parents or parent groups to implement nutrition initiatives. Awarded schools will implement at least one nutrition promotion initiative to advance the school's nutrition environment, including:
- School gardens
- Healthy fundraisers
- Classroom celebrations
- Classroom rewards
- Healthy Food Taste Testing
- Healthy Cooking Classes
- Water Access
- School store

The Parent Grants – Physical Activity Project - are for parents or parent groups to implement physical activity initiatives to help schools complete physical activity initiatives and move closer to becoming health-promoting. Awarded schools will implement at least one physical activity initiative) to increase:
- Physical activity minutes (to at least 30 minutes per day or by 10% if minutes are
already more than 30)
- Percentage of students participating in physical activity initiatives and/or
- Percentage of time students engage in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity
- Work toward becoming a health-promoting school.
- Provide information to students and parents on the importance of physical activity and nutrition.
- Join the celebration during Every Kid Healthy Week by hosting a family-friendly health-promoting event during April 2020.

- Outdoor and/or Indoor Active Recess
- Play Space Refurbishing
- Classroom Physical Activity
- Before and/or After-School Programming, including Walk/Bike to School

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Interested parents, parent groups, or schools should submit the application that includes either a physical activity component or a nutrition component led by a parent(s).

Eligible schools must be in the United States and serve grades K-12. Schools that serve PreK or younger are not eligible. If your school serves PreK and older, you are eligible to apply, but your grant may not be used for PreK only (K-12 students must also be served).

Schools with greater than 50% of students eligible for free/reduced-priced meals may receive priority, as well as schools located within 15 miles of an ALDI store, but all schools are encouraged to apply.

Grant funds cannot be used for staffing or administrative costs. Grant funds of “Incentives, gifts, and awards” cannot be given to a person working with the grant.
