Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to USA, Canada, and International nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions, and individuals for scholarly and historical research, archiving, and preservation of information about genres of Latin music. Funding is also intended to support anthropology and documentation of music traditions and Latin American folklore. Promoting results of scholarly research, and documenting and preserving information about Latin music genres should be the main focus of the projects.

Grants offered by the Foundation fall into one of two categories:

  • Research Grants fund projects that are interested in historical research, anthropology, documentation of music traditions and Latin American folklore.
  • Preservation Grants support projects advance the archiving and preservation heritage of Latin music genres.

Both grant programs award grants to organizations and individuals in an effort to further international awareness and appreciation of the significant contributions of Latin music and its makers to the world’s culture. The Foundation encourages projects from the following 24 countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, the United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Preservation Grants may fund:

  • Preservation of original, pre-existing media and source material
  • Projects of historical, artistic and cultural Latin music significance
  • Archiving projects including rescue, organization, and access to pre-existing media and materials.

For both types of grants, collections that have broad public accessibility (i.e. available at no cost via internet and or/radio or television) will generally be given priority over projects that have limited public access (i.e. solely available on site at no cost or by appointment). Funding requests for projects with no public access leading only to commercial release will rarely be considered, but will be evaluated for the collection’s historical significance and/or uniqueness.
